Black Capped Chickadee
The Black Capped Chickadee is a song bird that is 12–15 cm (5–6 in) long and is very small, weighing in at 9-15 g.
This little bird has short wings and a short tail.
These little birds are frequent visitors to bird feeders.
They are considered a-cute little bird who is curious about everything, including humans
Behavior
During the summer months, the black-capped chickadee eats many insects.
In the winter, these birds eat seeds and berries.
They are very smart little birds and will hide seeds in different places and return later to eat them, especially in the winter months.
When black-capped chickadees want to build a nest for their young, they use a hole in a tree.
Appearance
Both the male and female black-capped chickadee has black and white on its head. The very top of it's head and throat are black, and the sides are white.
The black-capped chickadee has a short, black beak.
On the back of the black capped chickadee you will see gray.
The front of it's body is white.
Habitat and Range
These little black-capped chickadees are easily seen at many feeding stations all around our province. They can be found almost in any area where there are trees. They are often heard before they’re seen. Once you’ve heard their sound, you will remember it and look for them as they fly in flocks.
